Council Meeting well attended by Connolly residents (+Video)

Together we have been on a challenging journey over the past few months, and as you probably already know, the Councillors voted (by simple majority) to Oppose the Local Development Plan (LDP) at the Joondalup Resort.

Watch the video here:

This outcome has been achieved through our collective voice and efforts, and each and every one of you played an important and significant part, from submissions, to our media protests, for which we thank you.

The Council meeting was well attended by residents, and we would like to thank you all for filling the chamber seats, which is an important message to demonstrate our collective unity and concerns.

The LDP was one of the last items under consideration on the agenda, and many opinions both for and against the LDP were presented by various Councilors. As the meeting drew to a close, the Mayor put forward strongly, his reasons why in his opinion, Councillors should support the LDP. One of the positions put forward was that Councillors were in fact voting for a plan, and not a building. As we all know, the purpose of the plan is that it forms the fundamental basis for the building to be designed and constructed, and by acceptance, further development of the building would be approved. A learned Councillor, representing our ward, responded in closing, with sound argument, and in-line with the sentiments and concerns expressed by the majority of Connolly residents. It is your voice, your concerns, your wishes, your opinions, and support that culminated in successful opposition of the LDP.

We, the Connolly SOS Group, heard your voice, and acted on your behalf, as did the majority of Councillors. Connolly residents, acknowledge Councillors for their support, understanding and care, and for being the instrument that represents residents to the City of Joondalup and Regulators. Thank you for representing those who voted for you at Council Elections. You have fulfilled your commitment to the community, and on behalf of all residents, and Connolly SOS, a big Thank You.

We know we can count on you, residents and Councillors, for further support, as we now embark on the next phase to engage all stakeholders to find an amicable, win-win solution. As you all know and support, we are not NIMBY’s, but seek a development that is fitting and in character and amenity of Connolly and surrounds, and is sympathetic to Fauna and Flora and endangered species that inhabit.

Thank you all for believing in yourselves, and in us, your Connolly SOS Group.
